Kids love science, so when the next birthday rolls around, plan a fun and educational science theme birthday party for your child.
As you look for fun party ideas for your child, how about planning a science theme birthday party? Fill the day with cool science experiments and games. Have the kids come dressed in their lab coats or as mad scientists and you will be sure to have a great time with the kids.
Purchase enough plastic test tubes for each child you are inviting. Write all the party instructions on a piece of paper and roll it up and stick the invitation inside the tube. You might want to make it look like a science fair project. For example:
You can also scan a picture of Einstein to use on the front of the invitation and include all the necessary informing on the inside.
When you decorate for a science party, think about things you would see in a lab. Hang white lab coats and goggles around the party room. Put a white sheet or tablecloth on the table and fill new beakers and test tubes with colorful sprinkles, colored sugar, and chocolate chips to use later in the party. Set out books about science, and if you have any old science fair projects around your house, use them to decorate as well. Don’t forget warning signs such as “Beware: Nuclear Waste” to hang up.
Set up three or four tables and have an older child or another adult “man” each lab. The labs can be very simple, such as giving each child a test tube filled with baking soda and having them pour in food coloring and then vinegar. You can also make goo by mixing flour and water in a bowl until it is thick, and then add food coloring. You can put it in baggies for them to take home. You can also make goo by mixing liquid starch and glue until it is smooth and thick. Another cool lab idea is to take a 2-liter bottle of soda outside and adding a whole pack of Mentos. It will cause an huge explosion that will wow the kids. You can also add stations where they experiment with static electricity (rubbing balloons on their hair) and magnets. Print out the instructions for each lab so the kids can take the ideas home and try them again.
If you already decorated your table with beakers and test tubes full of colored sugar and sprinkles, then give the kids plain, undecorated cupcakes and let them decorate their own cupcake. Kids love doing this and it will keep them busy.
For snacks set out plenty of packages of Pop Rocks, as well as finger foods such as Jell-O Jigglers, fruit, and finger sandwiches. Scientists in the lab get hungry so provide plenty of food.
Goodie bags can include anything from the instructions to the lab stations, packs of Mentos, fake glasses, solar system stickers, chocolate eyeball candy, and even small science journals so they can take notes on all of their experiments.
