Princess Tea Party Birthday Ideas for Girls

Planning Fun Sweet Teatime Theme B-Day Parties for Young Princesses

Dec 27, 2007 Janienne Jennrich

A princess tea party is a sweet birthday theme for girls, tweens or teens. Here are tips for tea party invitations, decorations, favors, food, games, and fun activities.

A fairytale princess tea party birthday theme will thrill most any girl. Whether it be for little girls, tweens or sweet teens, a tea party can be elegant with fancy dresses and good manners, cute, fun and very pink for little children, or a bit crazy like an Alice in Wonderland Mad Tea Party with characters and colorful decor and treats.

Party Planning for a Princess Theme Afternoon Tea Party for Girl: Little Girls or Teens

  • Begin by creating a list of close friends with whom the young lady would like to share a fun party.
  • For a smaller tea party, three or four friends is a nice number. At maximum, unless there are lots of parents to help, eight is about the limit on guests for a tea.
  • For a princess theme, buy or make and send sweet pastel pink, purple, or powder blue invitations about two weeks ahead. Glitter is a nice touch, too. Perhaps give a reminder call two days before.
  • For a children’s tea party, anytime from noon on is a good starting time. Time to play freely should be included in the schedule. A teen or more traditional English tea will need to start about 4:00.
  • For a feminine tea party, ask girlfriends to wear pretty floral or fancy ‘princess’ dresses, or whatever is appropriate for the group.
  • As an alternative, host a dress-up party and provide gorgeous gowns, tiaras, boa scarves, pretty shoes, make-up and jewelry (one tip: check second hand stores for good deals on fancy items).
  • Let the girls loose to prepare their costumes ahead of the sit-down tea. Be sure to have a dressing room (hanging sheets work great) and a make-up table with mirrors available.
  • Even pre-teens and teens will enjoy a princess party with real prom-type gowns, fancy decor, and elegant china and crystal. Let them plan and cook the treats.
  • Set up a fun place for the tea in an age appropriate area.

Party Supplies for a Children’s Princess Tea Party

  • Plan the tableware and decor to coordinate with the princess theme of the tea party.
  • Lots of glitter, fake pearls, and jewels will make the party table shine.
  • For children, paper goods might be a good way to go. There are plenty of princess themed decor and party favors available online in the royal theme as well.

Planning and Preparing Teatime Food, Beverages, and Treats

  • For young girls, tiny crust-less tea sandwiches in familiar flavors (perhaps chicken salad, cream cheese and jam, or tuna salad), pink iced cookies in crown or heart shapes, and white chocolate dipped strawberries would be lovely.
  • Beverages ideas include pink lemonade, raspberry ginger ale, warm apple cider and sweetened herbal teas.
  • For more ideas on planning a more grown-up or teen tea, including tea food and beverage essentials, see Afternoon Tea Party Planning 101.

Party Ideas for Enjoying the Princess English Afternoon Tea Party

  • Preparing thoroughly before little guests arrive allows time for Mom or the hostess to enjoy the party too.
  • Ask close parent friends to help set up, supervise young children, or clean up, if it seems appropriate.
  • To teach proper tea party manners to the girls for fun, see English Afternoon Tea Etiquette.
  • Girls will appreciate little keepsake gift or a gift bag to take as they depart. Ideas can be found among princess party favors online or in stores. Tiaras, rings, and necklaces are sweet ideas to consider.

Any day is a perfect day for a group of girlfriends to get together and feel royally special. Whether a birthday tea party or everyday teatime princess party is planned, it is sure to be a great success and wonderfully special for the girls involved.
