Boys love race cars. They are fast and loud, furious and fun. Here are some great ideas for planning a NASCAR birthday party for your child.

Looking for a party that won’t “backfire”? Here’s everything you need to plan a NASCAR birthday party celebration that will “fire up” your kids' engines, and keep them revving for more! With NASCAR racing as the inspiration, kids can really “take off”, with cool games, great snacks, and a cake that’s rip, roaring road wheelin’ fun. Don’t forget the goodie bags, for take home fun, even after the party's over.

NASCAR Invitations

Printable invites are below. Print on regular paper or cardstock. Cut along the outer dotted lines and fold along the inner lines to form the invite. Fill in the appropriate information.

Decorations

  • You can tape up rows of “dollar store” bought checkerboards to create a cool “NASCAR” backdrop for your party.
  • Use plastic or paper party plates with race cars or the NASCAR theme. If you feel energetic, cut out some of the cars from the center of the plates and tape them to the walls, and around your checkerboard pattern.
  • Red, blue and black balloons add to the festive scenery, along with red and black crepe paper, if you choose.
  • You can find NASCAR party supplies at Party Supplies Hut.
  • Tie a black or white helium balloon (alternating) behind each child's chair.

Activities

Race to the Finish Line (Outdoor activity)

Use plastic streamers to mark off the start and finish lines. Tell kids to get into teams of four. Each team will make a “car”. The first player in the team is the “car’s body”. This child will crouch down on all fours. The next child is the “driver” he will drive and steer “the car”. This race will be done like a relay, so the other 2 children on the team will wait halfway to the finish line, for the first 2 members of their team to arrive. The “car” will have to crawl backwards toward the finish line, while the car’s “driver” will walk behind the car and do the “steering” trying to keep the car in line with the “finish line.” When the first pair reaches the other members of their team, they will stop there, and the next two will take over. The first team to cross the finish line wins.

Mini Car Race (Indoor activity)

Use plastic race track (like Hot Wheels or Matchbox) or precut cardboard to form the track. Each child should have a miniature race car and a piece of track the same length as the other pieces. Track pieces should be elevated from a table or chair. Kids can “race their miniature cars to see whose gets to the end of the track first.

Cake

Use red and black gel pens to draw a “track” on any frosted sheet cake. You can make a “starting” and a “finish line” flag as well, if you choose. Use model cars (such as NASCAR, Hot Wheels, or Matchbox) with NASCAR logos, and racing numbers to finish off the design.

Snacks

Cheese and Cracker Cars

Use long, rectangular shaped cheese and cracker snacks to form the body of the cars. Use small circular cheese and crackers (like Ritz bits) to form the wheels. Use Cheese Whiz (or another kind of cheese spread) to attach the wheels to the cars. Decorate with condiments such as ketchup, mustard or barbeque sauce. Assemble cars on a “track” made out of pretzel sticks. Use party toothpicks stuck in cheese and beef stick pieces to represent racing flags.

Goodie Bags

  • Miniature racing cars
  • NASCAR or Hot Wheels coloring or activity books
  • Crayons
  • NASCAR fruit snacks
  • Flags
  • NASCAR stickers
  • NASCAR trading cards
