If you have a movie buff in your house, then a movie-theme birthday party is a great way to celebrate. Here are some easy and fun ideas for the best movie party in town.

What kid wouldn't love to have a movie-theme birthday party? If your child has ever dreamed of making it big in Hollywood, or just loves the big screen, then this is the perfect choice to make his or her birthday a blockbuster event.

Movie Theme Invitations

Clapboards make cute invitations. Printable invites are below. Print on black paper or card stock. Cut along the outer dotted lines. Fill in the appropriate information using a white crayon or white marker.

Movie Theme Decorations

Put a gold tablecloth on the party table and add star-shaped confetti and a director's clapboard. Hang black, red and gold stars from the ceiling.

Make a banner that says, "Now Starring [your child's name] in the Birthday Show!" Attach clusters of black and gold balloons to the party chairs. Purchase a red carpet and put it at the entrance of your party. If you can't find a red carpet, use red felt or even a red plastic tablecloth.

Set up a director's chair surrounded by stars, twinkling lights and a palm tree. Take pictures of kids as they arrive to the party in this spot. Place the pictures in the goodie bags for the kids to take home.

Movie Theme Activities

Go to the movies: Of course, the best activity that you can plan for this party is to take the crew to see a movie at your local theater. Make sure that whatever you take them to see is age appropriate. If you are worried about the cost of taking several kids, then check out your local dollar movie theater.

"Late Night" at the movies: Have a sleepover and a late night movie showing. Set the kids up in their sleeping bags and pajamas and pop in a new release DVD or a classic. Play classic games while the movie is on such as 20 Questions (name that celebrity) or Mad Libs.

Academy Awards Night: Ask everyone to dress up as his or her favorite movie character. Give out small plastic Oscar trophies to each attendee. Come up with fun awards such as "Best Drama Queen," or "Coolest Sunglasses."

Cake and Snacks

Movie Popcorn Cupcakes

Bake cupcakes in your choice of flavor from a baking mix. Top with white canned frosting. Make popcorn out of mini marshmallows. To do this, take three mini marshmallows and pinch together to form a piece of popped popcorn. Make several of these and cover the tops of the cupcakes. Take a small spritzer bottle, add a few drops of yellow food coloring and fill the rest with water. Spritz on the marshmallows to give them a buttery popcorn look.

Hot dogs and nachos are both classic movie snacks. Make the hot dogs ahead of time and wrap in foil. Have tortilla chips and melted cheese on hand for nachos. Don't forget the popcorn, too!

Movie Theme Goody Bags

Find small popcorn bags or boxes at your party supply store. Put a package of movie theater candy, a package of mini microwave popcorn, and a $5 gift card to rent a movie in each bag.
