Indoor Party Games for Children and Grownups

Entertainment for Kids and Adults

Jun 3, 2009 Lesley Munnichs

These games can be played inside if there is room or, if not, outside in a sheltered spot.

These two games do require specific equipment and some time to set up, particularly the first one.

Lazy Tennis

String, two chairs and a balloon are needed for this game. It may also be helpful to have a referee for the game.

  • Begin by setting up the playing area. Clear a large space and in the centre create the centre net. Do this by tying a length of string, about a foot off the ground, to two chairs, and so dividing the playing area in half.
  • Write each player's name on a slip of paper, put all the names in a container and draw out two at a time to decide who will play each other.
  • Players remove their shoes, sit on the floor (one player each side of the net) and lean back onto their hands then lift themselves up so that only their hands and feet touch the ground.
  • Using a balloon as the tennis ball, play begins by the first player scooping the "ball" up into the air and then over the net. The player on the other side has to kick it back without the balloon touching the net or the floor. If this does happen the point goes to the other player, and the winning player gets to serve for the next point.
  • First player to 10 points wins.

If there are enough players, winning players from the first round of matches can play each other until there is a final winner. Alternatively (and if everyone has enough energy!) play a best of three .

Nuts

This game can get a little messy so it is best played on a floor that can easily be swept clean.

  • Divide players into two teams, with each team forming a line. Put an empty bucket at one end of each line and a bucket full of nuts in their shell with a scoop or cup at the other.
  • Blow a whistle to start the game. The player closest to the bucket with the nuts scoops them up into the cup and then passes the cup down the line to the empty bucket. The last player empties the cup into the empty bucket and the team passes the empty cup down the line to the other end, to the full bucket. Each team repeats the process until they have moved all their nuts from one bucket to the other.
  • If nuts are dropped they must be scooped up with the cup and handed down the line a player at a time to the bucket being filled. Each team must pick up their dropped nuts before they can get another scoop.
  • The first team to transfer all their nuts wins.
