A game that tests how much kids really take in when reading a book, watching a movie or listening to music.
There are three different versions of this game. One played with music, one with books and one with movies. All of them will need a little preparation before the game is played. Name that TuneGather the kids together in a group. Play the introductory few seconds to a familiar song and ask the players to guess the name of the song. If the kids are bright, one of them may guess the correct song after only those few seconds. If not, begin the song again and play it for about 20 seconds and give the players another chance to guess. Keep giving them more of the tune until one of the players has guessed correctly. Players will need to be seated well away from the CD, tape or record player least they see the cover of the CD, tape or album. If that's not possible try placing the CD, tape or record player behind a high backed chair or some other kind of partition. Name that BookSimiliar to Name that Tune but instead of players guessing a song, they guess a book. The easiest way to do this is to photocopy passages from well known or favourite books that way the person who is reading out to the kids need not worry about trying to hide the book. Don't forget to right the name of the book on the photocopy if it's likely to be forgotten. Read a few sentances of the book then give the players a chance to guess the title of the book. If no-one guesses correctly read a few more sentances until someone gets it right. Name that MovieThis time players have to guess the name of the movie. This can be made very easy by simply playing a short piece of the film. With players seeing the actors they should be able to easily guess correctly. It can be made more difficult by covering the TV screen so the players cannot see the actors, they can only hear the sound of the movie. Again play a short section then give the players a chance to guess. If need be play another short section until someone guesses correctly. A lucky-dip style prize for the player or players who guess correctly works well for this activity. Looking for more game ideas? Try Kids Games for Indoors.
