Jan 1, 2008 Janienne Jennrich

Ideas to plan a little girls Valentine's Day tea party or February birthday party; decor, recipes, party favors, craft ideas, & activities for a fancy or Mad Tea Party.

Planning Ahead for a Sweet Children’s Valentine's Day Tea

  • Begin by making a list of three or four girlfriends, or consider a teeny tea party and sleepover for two BFFs (Best Friends Forever).
  • For a Valentine's Day tea, look for or make heart-shaped or fanciful Valentine invitations. There are loads of invitation ideas online or at local scrapbooking stores. This is a good time for glitter and lace.
  • Mail or hand deliver special invitations well in advance, at least asking guests to hold the date.
  • If fancy tea party is desired, include this information on the invitation and ask guests to wear pastel pink or violet dresses, pretty hats, or clothing embellished with hearts.
  • Teatime for children won’t really matter. A morning, lunch, or afternoon tea party would all be fine.
  • Pick a nice or fun spot to have the tea, based on the personalities and interests of the young ladies involved.

Table Settings and Tableware for a Girls Valentine Tea Party

  • Plan the tableware and decor to coordinate with the Valentine theme of the tea party.
  • Hearts are easy to cut out of paper, so decorations need not be expensive.
  • For little girls, paper goods might be a good way to go. There are plenty of Valentine themed decorations and party favors. There are many ideas and products online at Oriental Trading Company.

Planning and Preparing Kids’ Teatime Treats

  • Some ideas for a girl’s Valentine tea might include homemade heart-shaped tea sandwiches, fresh biscuits served with yummy jams, pretty Valentine Berry Parfaits, and sweet miniature tarts.
  • Flavored herbal teas can be nice, but for little girls pink lemonade or hot chocolate may be more appealing. In any case, serve the beverages of choice from delicate pitchers and teapots.

Relaxing and Enjoying the Valentine English Afternoon Tea Party

  • Preparing thoroughly before little guests arrive allows time for Mom or the hostess to enjoy the party too.
  • Ask close parent friends or family to help set up, supervise children, or clean up, if it seems appropriate.

Activities for a Girls Valentine Tea Party

  • To teach proper tea party manners to the girls for a party activity, see English Afternoon Tea Etiquette. Keep the ‘lesson’ light and amusing.
  • Letting girls make Valentines for family and friends is a fun party activity. Be sure to provide lots of colored paper, doilies, glitter glue, washable markers, and envelopes. Provide aprons or art shirts to protect pretty clothes.
  • Girls will appreciate a little keepsake gift or gift bag to take as they depart. Ideas can be found among Valentine party favors online or in stores. Heart-shaped trinket boxes, heart shaped ‘gem’ rings, and sweetheart necklaces are good ideas to consider.

Tea Party Quote From Alice in Wonderland (1951):

Mad Hatter: Would you like a little more tea?

Alice: Well, I haven't had any yet, so I can't very well take more.

March Hare: Ah, you mean you can't very well take less.

Mad Hatter: Yes. You can always take more than nothing.
