With these fun piñata birthday party games and activities, parents can plan a fiesta birthday before kids can count, "Uno, dos, tres!"

Once parents have settled on a piñata birthday party theme, created their homemade fiesta birthday invitations, planned food, and baked the sombrero birthday cake, they’re ready to start brainstorming fun and creative piñata birthday party games.

Pinata Birthday Party Games

One party game that’s a must for any fiesta birthday is breaking the piñata. Based on the ages of the birthday child and party guests, parents can either opt for smashing a traditional pinata or purchasing one of the popular pull-string pinatas.

The birthday child may even have fun designing several original piñatas for party decor. Balloons, toilet paper rolls, shoe boxes, and other recyclable trash can be transformed into all sorts of animals, trains, or castles with a little masking tape, papier machet, and tissue paper. Parents will need to get this project going early since papier machet requires at least a day to dry before the colored tissue paper can be applied.

During the piñata birthday party, a parent can lead kids in a modified Mexican Hat Dance by holding hands and circling a sombrero. To add a fun twist, spots can be marked out in a circle ahead of time like a traditional cake walk. Children who land on the special spot can be rewarded with their gift bags and party favors.

  • Parents can dust off the traditional Pin-the-Tail-On-The-Donkey to complement the Fiesta Theme.
  • Kids can have fun tossing rings around an inflatable or cardboard cactus.
  • For babies, party planners can set out a fiesta theme activity center on a woven Mexican blanket complete with maracas, a toy guitar, other music makers, and any battery-operated toys that speak spanish.

With all these creative options for games, parents can really bring a piñata birthday party to life.

Pinata Birthday Party Gift Bags

As guests leave the fiesta birthday, they’ll love taking home a special bagful of memories from the fun afternoon. Treats from the piñata make gift bags at a fiesta birthday a synch. Really, all parents need to do is hand out empty gift bags before birthday piñatas are broken. The kids will do the rest.

Some other inexpensive bag stuffers are easy to find in bulk at the toy store or online party suppliers. A few fun ideas include…

  • Tiny maracas
  • Brightly painted bobble head animals
  • Spanish coloring books and crayons
  • Bilingual story books

These creative ideas are bound to have guests shouting “¡Viva la fiesta!” And for more ideas when the next year’s celebration rolls around, planners may want to check out tips for throwing a barnyard birthday party or sports birthday party.
