With these Thomas the Train birthday party games and train party supplies , a little boy's railroad birthday party will be right on track.

A Thomas the Train birthday party is a popular choice for little boys, toddler’s, or even baby’s first year birthday party. And with the right train birthday party games and train party supplies, parents don’t even need to plan a trip to the railroad station.

Games for a Thomas the Train Birthday Party

Railroad Signal GameParents can paint one of their empty wrapping paper rolls with red and white stripes. This railroad crossing symbol can be raised and lowered along with a clanging bell in a train theme version of Red Light Green Light. First one to cross the duct-tape tracks gets to ring the crossing bell for the next round.

  • Parents can design a fun obstacle course for the long train of guests, each holding onto the waist of the one in front. Obstacles along the duct-tape tracks can include hoola hoops held up by parents, a mountain of cardboard boxes to push through, a refrigerator box tunnel, and—for the grand finale—a piece of butcher paper stretched tight across the tracks for the train to burst through.
  • Kids will have a blast racing to construct human railroad tracks before the locomotive barrels through. Parents can start the game by explaining that a portion of track was destroyed by train robbers and needs to be rebuilt before the next train derails.
  • To build each section of track, two kids lie parallel to each other with another guest lying across them perpendicularly. Once the first section is complete, the next team of three is sent. The first two lie foot to head with the completed track and the last lies across them to form another section of track. One parent is the foreman. Their job is to quickly form the groups of three and blow a train whistle signaling when that team can run to the end of the track and add on.
  • When the kids are all lying down in track, the foreman calls the kids who build the first section of track to move to the end and so on until the track reaches the finish line. To make the game more competitive for older children, parents can time them with a stopwatch or break the guests into two teams and have a track-laying race.

Hula Hoop Railroad Game

Another popular kid’s party game that involves a train theme is also a great exercise in team building. Parents can direct the guests to line up in a train with hands linked. The first person in the line, or the engineer, is given a hoola hoop. Parents explain that the goal is to get the hoop all the way down to the caboose. If at any point the chain of hands breaks, the hoola hoop goes back to the engineer. Parents can make the game competitive by breaking the group into two or more trains and starting on the sound of the train whistle.

Before the Thomas the Train birthday party, parents can mark out a round house pattern of tracks with duct tape. They can use a recording of a popular train song such as “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” or “Down at the Station” to turn on and off in a train theme version of musical chairs.
