If your child loves pyramids and mummies, then plan a fun and educational Egyptian themed birthday party.

Kids seem fascinated by Egyptian history. They love mummies, pyramids and the pharaohs. An Egyptian themed birthday party is a great way to give your child a fun and educational party. Boys and girls alike will love these party ideas.

Invitations:

Make inexpensive and realistically looking ancient invitations by using papyrus or similar looking card stock paper for invites and envelopes. Take a picture of your child dressed like an Egyptian and scan that picture onto the invitations. Print the party guest names in "hieroglyphics" on the outside of the invitation in black ink. Use antique looking stamps from the post office to mail the invitations.

Decorations:

When you think about Egypt, you probably think about towering pyramids, glittering jewels and sand. This is exactly what you need to decorate for a party. To decorate the party table, drape in rich colored fabric, and place large "rhinestones" of every color over the table. Make several pyramids out of Styrofoam blocks. Simply cut it to size and paint. Use sand colored party plates and napkins to round out the look. You can also use old looking clay pots and woven baskets to decorate the room.

Activities:

There are many activities you can do to keep your little Egyptians busy:

Mummy Wrap

Divide kids into two teams. One will be the mummy. Give each team several packages of white crepe paper or party streamers. On the word "go," teach team will completely wrap the mummy in streamers from head to toe. The team that finishes first with their mummy completely covered wins. Make sure you get pictures of the end result of this game!

Egyptian Dig

Let your guest be archeologists and have them dig for treasures. Fill a kiddy-sized pool with sand if you don’t have a sand box. Hide plastic coins, fake jewelry, plastic beetles and plastic mummies in the sand. Let each child dig until they have found one of each item.

Cake and Snacks:

An Egyptian party calls for a pyramid cake. Even if you are not too handy at cake making, this is an easy cake you can do yourself. Start by baking one regular sized cake and two loaf pans. After the loaf sized cakes have cooled, spread white icing on one and stack them on top. You will then use a knife to shape it into a pyramid. Place on top of the regular sized cake. Ice the entire cake with white frosting. For the sand, place graham crackers in a gallon sized Ziploc bag and hammer them until they are fine crumbs. Sprinkle on the cake to resemble sand. For the pyramid, use decorating gel to pipe on "bricks."

Provide Egyptian foods for the snacks. Fresh fruit such as coconuts and melons are perfect. Also, serve small finger sandwiches, and chocolate coins.

Goodie Bags:

For Egyptian themed goodie bags, use chocolate coins, plastic beetles (scarabs), fake jewels, and order some Halloween mummy ink pens or toys. These types of things are usually found year round in catalogs and websites such as Oriental Trading Company.
