Have large dinosaur footprints leading up the walk way of your house for kids to follow.
Use a green tablecloth with brown plates, black napkins, yellow utensils, and red cups.
Tie a brown, yellow, green, or black helium balloon behind each party guests chair.
Hang plastic vines around the party room.
Games
Dinosaur Egg Hunt
Directions: A few days before the party make paper mache dinosaur eggs using small balloons. This process takes time, so advanced preparation is necessary. Use two layers of paper mache to cover the balloon. This will make cracking open the eggs easier for children. After popping each balloon, fill the eggs with small toys and/or individually wrapped candies. Cover the whole and let dry. Spray paint the eggs and let dry. On the party day, hide the eggs around your house or in your yard. Let the children hunt for the eggs (one egg per child). When everyone has found an egg, let the children open the eggs to discover their prize.
Guess the Fossil Game
Directions:
Make fossils using a variety objects.
Put a number on the back of each fossil and list what item was used to create the impression.
Lay out the items on a large table with numbers, like a gallery.
Have the kids guess what made the fossil.
Fossil Ideas:
Tire tracks from a Hot Wheels car.
Foot prints from a plastic animal.
Coins.
Legos.
Use part of a shoe print.
A piece of jewelry.
Cake and Snacks
Volcano Cake
Ingredients:
1 box devil's food cake mix, baked according to package directions
1 can (16 oz.) vanilla frosting
Red, yellow, and green liquid food coloring
12 arrowroot cookies
Red sugar crystals
Yellow edible glitter
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Coat a 10-cup Bundt pan and a 4-cup glass measuring cup with cooking spray.
Prepare cake mix according to package directions.
Pour 2 cups of batter into the measuring cup and the remaining batter into the Bundt pan. Bake Bundt cake for 30 minutes and the cake in the measuring cup for 45 minutes.
Cool cakes approximately 15 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Separate 1/4 cup frosting and tint dark orange-red. Tint remaining frosting bright orange. Set aside.
Place Bundt cake on a large platter, leaving a 3-inch to 4-inch border. Loosely fill middle cavity with a piece of foil crushed into a ball. Place small cake, rounded-side-up, over Bundt cake. With a small serrated knife, cut away rounded sides of Bundt cake to make it look like a mountain. Press cut pieces around base of small cake to fill in the space between the two cakes.
Cut out a 1-inch wide hole in the center of smaller cake (save the crumbs to make dirt); then cut a narrow V-shaped wedge from the hole down the length of the cake. This will be where the lava will flow. Discard wedge pieces.
In food processor, process cookies until they form crumbs. Combine 3 tablespoons of water and 12 drops green food coloring. Add to cookies and process until crumbs clump together and are tinted green. Sprinkle crumbs around cake base to resemble greenery.
Microwave bright-orange frosting about 10 seconds, until thin enough to flow. Spoon frosting around rim of volcano, letting it flow down sides and along lava path. Pat some cake crumbs onto frosting.
Microwave dark orange-red frosting. Spoon it into crater; let it flow down lava path, overlapping orange frosting. Sprinkle rim of crater with sugar crystals. Sprinkle lava flow with more crystals and edible glitter. (parents.com - 5/99)
