Invite your child's friends to a party of arts and crafts. This type of birthday party tends to be messy, so be prepared. Everyone is guaranteed to have a great time.

Little Picassos will have a blast at this Arts & Crafts Birthday Party. Ideas are unlimited when it comes to things to create, build, and construct. You provide the smocks, and the kids will provide the fun!

Invitations

Printable invites are below. Print on regular paper or cardstock. Cut along the outer dotted lines and fold the inner dotted lines to form the invite. Fill in the appropriate information.

Decorations

  • Make a cardboard town from big empty boxes to line the walls of the party room.
  • Tie a primary colored helium balloon to the back of each guest's chair.
  • Have primary colored party ware, such as yellow plates, red cups, blue napkins, and yellow utensils, and a red tablecloth.
  • Hang streamers around the party room.
  • Make a big paint palette from cardboard to hang on a wall in the party room.
  • Set up an easel at the front door that says, "Welcome to ______'s Museum."
  • Line the walk way to your house with helium balloons tied to paint cans.
  • As guests arrive, supply them with a smock or oversized T-shirt.

Activities

Offer face painting for the party guests. Maybe a few of the moms can stay and help out with this project.

Hang huge pieces of butcher paper to certain walls in your house where the kids can pick up a paintbrush and paint on the wall. Perhaps they can make a mural wishing your child a Happy Birthday that she/he can keep when the party is over. Just have paintbrushes and paints lying on the ground that the guests can come and use at any point during the party. Be sure to cover the ground below the paper.

Supply materials such as cookie cutters, craft sticks, markers, stickers, stamps, glitter glue pens, colored paper, paper cutouts, sequins, safety scissors, and other craft materials for kids to use their imaginations to create projects. Have a few finished crafts set out to spark their ideas.

Hold an art contest where kids place their best work of art in the gallery (a special judging room), and have each child vote for the creation that they like best. Give out prizes for most creative, most colorful, most materials used, etc. Make sure every child earns a prize for something.

Cake and Snacks

Palette Cake

  1. Bake a round cake following package directions.
  2. Frost the cake with white frosting.
  3. Decorate the top of the cake using colored frosting to make circles of paint.
  4. Place a new paintbrush on top of the cake.

Palette of Fruit

Have a fruit tray set up with bold colored fruits, such as strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, and pineapples. Offer fruit dips.

Goodie Bags

Include edible jewelry, face paints, paintbrush, paint set, bubbles, craft sticks, glitter glue, sidewalk chalk, string, beads, and other artsy things that you can find.
