Here's a party theme for fans of American Idol (a greatteen birthday party idea), centered on the reality TV show. Perfect for guys and girls alike, this birthday theme makes for a fabulous Hollywood celebration! The only ones missing out on the fun will be judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and host Ryan Seacrest.
Setting up the Theme for an American Idol Party
If the party guests are adventurous and fun, they can dress up as a favorite contestant or as Simon, Paula, Randy, or Ryan.
Another idea is to set up the party as an audition (guests would need to be told in advance to prepare), with a karaoke machine set up (with an American Idol Karaoke CD) for hopeful contestants. One could also download tunes online and burn a custom CD. For the audition idea, print up Golden Tickets to Hollywood for everyone, of course. They will also need try-out numbers to wear. As these ideas take a bit of bravery, let the birthday teen decide if friends would enjoy them or not.
It would be perfect to have the party on a night when the American Idol TV show is on, and then let everyone vote . In lieu of this, tape the show or play an Idol DVDs of past season highlights (perhaps just in the background of the party).

Official American Idol themed party goods are available at stores and through online party suppliers. This is a party that be expensive and luxurious or homemade with style, but a lower budget.
Hollywood Reality TV Event Decorating Ideas
Cut out huge silver or gold "walk of fame" stars and tape them to the sidewalk leading up to the door. They could have guest or idol names on each star, or a "Welcome to American Idol" message. If possible, set up bright spotlights, a red carpet (red butcher paper works), and/or a strobe light set on slow to look like flashing cameras. Guests should feel like Hollywood stars as they enter the party.
Setting up a stage and judging table might be appropriate, depending on the type of theme chosen. Curtains or a big screen TV and lots of chairs can add to the theater feeling. If watching the show, have cardboard and markers ready for guests to make signs to hold up while they are in the "audience."
Posters of current and past contestants and idols may be hung on the walls, with stars and Idol logos.
Inflatable microphones are a fun favor for guys or girls.
American Idol Birthday Party Food
Of course, Coca Cola (perhaps decaf if at night) is a must as Coke is one of the biggest Idol sponsors. Red plastic Coke cups are a fun addition for serving drinks. For a teens, pizza is a popular choice. Make popcorn for the "audience" to munch during the show or auditions.
For a birthday party, cake ideas include: microphone-shaped, American Idol logo, star-shaped, Hollywood sign, or a custom-made photo cake. Cupcakes with Idol-blue frosting and star picks will also be fun.

Hollywood Party Activities
Take lots of Hollywood glam photos. Treat guests like stars. Give everyone an autograph book and pen to use during the event. Teens won’t need a lot of planned activities and will create their own fun. Having a couple American Idol games on hand is still a good idea, however. Look for DVD and video game versions.
